week 5.
so, this weekend was dedicated to mr. max weber. who knew that he was so influential/relevant to people like clifford geertz, talcott parsons, pierre bourdieu, and michel foucault?
i didn't.
here is a great quote by weber about the role of the professor in universities:
"The primary task of a useful teacher is to teach his students to recognize 'inconvenient' facts--I mean the facts that are inconvenient for their party opinions."
-from "Science as a Vocation," which was published around 1918.
in other news, my office is freezing because the A/C runs no matter what the planet is doing outside. so, after getting a little soaked on my way to school from the downpour, i was welcomed by the frigid and consistent blast of cool air in my office environs. i did the only thing that any good weberian rational actor could do: i left.
